    Projects

How projects work in DLWAY: starting one from a template or a paper, where it is stored, the one-tab rule, and the Connections view that shows what was built from what.

    What a project holds

A project keeps your files, datasets and their versions, PrepFlow workflows, model graphs and trained models, pipelines and their run history, Dashboard layouts and Research sessions together. The Projects view lists every project with its last-opened time and a summary of how many datasets, models and generated code files it contains.

    Starting a project

Choose New Project and pick one of:

    • TensorFlow.js + WebGPU: a starter for in-browser training.
    • Python Data Science: a main.py, a requirements.txt and a README.
    • React + TypeScript: a small front-end starter.
    • From research papers: opens the Research module and creates the project from the paper's experiment.
    • An empty project.

    Where a project is stored

    • In your browser: every browser can do this. The project is saved in the browser's own storage and comes back when you reopen the Studio in the same browser. It is not a folder you can see in a file manager.
    • In a folder on your disk: Chrome, Edge, Brave and other Chromium browsers can save a project to a real folder you choose. DLWAY keeps a .dlway/project.json manifest next to your files so the asset list survives a refresh. Firefox and Safari do not support this, and the Studio says so when you try.

If a folder-backed project's folder is deleted from your computer, opening the project uses the copy kept in the browser.

    One tab at a time

Only one browser tab may have a project open for editing. If you open the same project in a second tab, that tab shows a blocking dialog instead of the Studio, because two tabs holding stale copies of the same project would overwrite each other's edits. Use Work here instead in the blocked tab to ask the other tab to let go, or simply close the first tab. The lock is released automatically when a tab closes or crashes.

    Seeing how things connect

Open a project card's Connections to see every item in the project and what it is wired to: for each dataset, model or generated file, the items it was built from and the items built from it. Use it to answer questions like "which dashboard depends on this cleaned dataset?" before you change or delete something.

    Renaming and deleting

Rename a project from its card. Deleting asks for confirmation.

    Switching projects safely

If a pipeline is running when you switch projects, the Studio asks before leaving, because pipeline runs belong to the project that started them. See Running pipelines.
